How to Choose Darts
Finding the best dart for you will improve your performance and accuracy. There are many types of darts to choose from which suits you. Here are some factors to consider when choosing your darts.
1. Determine the Type of Darts
Darts come in many types. The most common are tungsten, brass and wooden but of
course wooden is quite rare nowadays. The most popular is the tungsten type due to its
durability. Tungsten darts also have a smaller barrel which allows you to group darts
closer together on the board. Try a variety of dart types to decide which is your
personal preference.
2. Decide the Weight of the Darts
This is also a personal choice. Darts weights typically range from 12 to 50 grams. Most
players use a dart weighing 30 grams or less.
A factor is choosing a dart is the speed in which you throw the dart. The heavier the dart,
the harder you have to throw it and remain accurate. In another word, if you think you have
more strength in your hand then it is better to choose heavier darts. If you think you
unable to control your accuracy when throwing then it is better to get a lighter darts. There
is also an example where some players will use a heavier darts in the beginning of the
game, and change to a lighter darts after the 2nd round.
When you try each dart weight, throw it the same way you normally do and see how the
darts react. Choose the weight that best matches your throwing style.
3. Barrel Grips Factor
The barrel of the darts also varies. Some are heavier and some are smooth. Generally the
heavier barrel provide a better grop, but depending on your throwing style may not be as
accurate. Again, it is a personal choice so find a grip that is best for you.
4. Flight Factor
Flights also come in different sizes and styles. There are standard, oval shape, kite
shape. A dimpled surfaced flight will help slow down and stabilize the flight of the dart. Try
different flights to see how they affect the path of the darts with your throwing style.
5. Testing and experimenting
Choosing the correct dart involves a lot of testing and experimenting. Try as many
different combination of types, weights, barrels and flights as you can. It may take a while
to find the combination which is the best fit for you. That is why darts is kind of
interesting sport where you can design it to your on way.
Don't spend a lot of money on your first set of darts. If you are a beginner in darts try many different types of darts before investing in a higher quality darts. It is also likely that your dart throwing style will change as you are learning. Wait until you have a consistent throwing
style before buying your own darts.
Just to share
The admin of this blog also have been doing a lot of testing and experimenting to choose the suitable darts for him self. I have been using 4 darts so far in my darts sport life. Have been playing with heavier darts and also the lighter darts. Also have done experiment in changing the type of the flight, longer shaft to shorter shaft and now still experimenting in order to become a good darts player.
P/S: Please feel free to comment and share with us your thoughts on how to improve our darts skills.

The basic to improve your darts skills
It is important to start from the basic to improve our skills. Nothing we can do to make it better when there is something wrong in our basic. That applies to any other sports too.
So let's start to improve!
1. Stands right
You should maintain a steady stance and sure to not lean over the line. Here is where
most of the people think it is right to lean over the line. Well it might sounds like it would
make sense to lean over the line a bit to get closer to the dartboard but this will actually
destabilize your balance. Distribute your weight evenly between both of your feet. You can
put one foot forward, but don't lean on it more than on your other foot.
People who have played darts for years, and who often put all their weight on one foot during their stance, complain of pain in their feet and legs. Keeping your legs firm and the rest of your body relaxed will prevent this problem.
2. Hold right
Holding the darts correctly is also one of the important point to improve your skills. Hold
the darts straight horizontally. Use only 3 fingers to grip the darts. Grip the darts firmly
enough to keep it steady but not too tight.
Before you hold the darts, try to find the middle point of your darts. Different type of darts has different middle point. The middle point is where you should put your finger at, for a better grip and for the power when throwing will be balance.
How to:
1. Put the darts horizontally on your pointer finger (forefinger)
(Picture will be uploaded soon)
2. Try to balance the darts.
3. If the darts moving upward and downward, move it a bit front or a little bit back
until it stop moving and become stable.
4. Once you have found the middle point of the darts, then you should hold the darts
at the point.
3. Aiming
Aim at the dartboard. Don't look at your darts as you are throwing.
4. Throwing
When throwing the darts, release your hand and fingers all at once then follow through
with your arm towards the board after letting go of the darts.
It is not necessary to throw the darts hard. Even a light throw, if aimed and followed through correctly will reach the dartboard and stick.
Also, avoid spinning the darts as you release it. This usually occurs if your finger are wrapped over the darts, causing the darts to roll off your fingers and spin
towards the board.
Practice make perfect!
